Our customer: Can I order a Tekonsha ZCI wiring harness from you? I was planning to order a hitch for my 2007 BMW X3 but did not see that specific convertor. My mechanic tells me that is what I should get.

This is a great question and your mechanic is absolutely correct! The Tekonsha ZCI Zero Contact Interface Universal ModuLite makes it fast, easy, and safe to add a 4-way trailer connector to your vehicle to power your trailer's lights. Normal trailer light wiring will require you to either splice into your vehicle wiring or plug-in to existing factory connections (when available).The ZCI system will bypass your vehicle's wiring entirely by clamping the intuitive sensors onto the individual wires of your factory tail light harness.

Each sensor is able to read the current that travels through the wire that it is clamped onto. After  sensing the specific purpose of that wire, a signal can be sent to the included 4-way flat trailer connector. That signal is then transmitted through the connector to trigger the appropriate function on your trailer lights.

Because this system completely bypasses all of your vehicle's wiring your trailer's lights will be powered without the risk of damaging feedback or overloading your vehicle's electrical system. If you have a vehicle that doesn't allow certain modifications - usually a leased car or truck – this harness can be installed and removed at a later date with no obvious altercations made to the vehicle. Once removed this unit can easily be transferred to another car or truck.

In addition the ZCI is constructed using surface-mount technology (SMT) for consistent, reliable performance. SMT involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. Benefits include maximized trailer light yield, durability & intensity while producing minimal heat and superior operation in rough road conditions.
