Trouble Shooting Electric Trailer Brakes

Written by Hitchweb Team Monday, July 27, 2015

If electric brakes are locked up when trailer is plugged in, but allow wheels to turn freely when brake wire is disconnected, what causes this?

If it’s all of the brakes it could be the brake controller itself that’s defective or not adjusted correctly. If it’s just one of them then there might be something wrong with the shoes or brake adjustment. Adjust the settings on your brake controller first or get it tested/try hooking up to a different truck if possible.

Unfortunately we do not carrry a 5 way round to 4 way flat trailer connector adapter, but we do have another option.
Installing power converter kit #119180 and following the 3 wire installation steps will allow the the trailer and motorcycle to be compatible.
